Comments: What a fantastic season for the Rebel Regiment! I'm thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with such a tremendous organization this year.

Your performance in Atlanta was a dream come true and a night I will always remember.

The past three seasons have been tremendous ones for the Rebel Regiment and the band has improved dramatically in that time. If someone had told me at the 1996 Johnson City regional that in two years we would finish ahead of 1996 JC champs Lafayette, I don't think I would have believed it.

Winning the state championship is a tremendous achievement you should be very proud of, but I hope at the same time you will set for yourselves even loftier goals.

The 1998-1999 RR seniors leave behind an incredible legacy and have laid the foundation for even greater achievements. Perhaps in the not-to-distant future the RR will be Southeastern Regional Champions and finalists at the Grand Nationals.

To reach this next level of performance will require greater effort and commitment than you have ever expended, but the talent and instructional quality necessary to make these dreams a reality are there.

I also hope, as Matt said,..you cherish these moments. You will never be able to regain them. The time you spend together is very speical, if you cannot realize that you need to reevaluate your position in the band. I think that all the neg. comments should seize. The band deserves respect. All across the state( now the SE ) the RR is known for it's great marching,but more importantly it is known for it's great kids. Look at all the comments from these other bands complmenting you not only on your performance but on your great attitude and that is more important than a silly newspaper article. Dont seek gratification it will find you and at least I think it already has because you can see it on this webpage. Comments: ya know...The Rebel Regiment has reached a new level of outstanding achievement. That is very true, but with this new excellence comes the responsibility to be mature and respectful. Yes, sometimes James F. Byrnes High School does not get fair coverage; however, that is really no excuse for acting like a baby. Most of the band, fortunately, has evolved to overcome this infantile behavior. It is a step backwards when someone who claims to be a "friend" or "defender" of the Rebel Regiment posts messages on this web page and sends letters to our local paper riddled with poor grammar and childish insults. Please someone tell me WHY? The best wide receiver/QB combination is in Byrnes, everybody knows that because of the press. But do they know that the best band is in Duncan? When they announced that we came in third place we were laughed at by members of your band and it really was not neccesary. Our band always has and always will have respect for your band. We enjoyed seeing Irmo and Lexington in Johnson City and you and Ft. Mill in Atlanta. You all should have won last year, but it is nice to see that you took it this year. I think it is outstanding to have two of the state's finest marching bands in the same area. I have seen where some of the BS students have said that our students make negative remarks about the RR. I beg to differ. This has been the best band by far in the history of the Rebel Regiment and your hard work and that of the fabulous directorial staff has made it possible. Comments: Ok,to start with, WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! Wow, it is such a great feeling to win the state championship! We've been second twice while i was here, and both were close, last year was such a heartbreak, but this year, we did it. We worked hard and made this show the most succesful show in Byrnes history. We are the only band from Byrnes to have a completly undeafeted season. And, it is nothing that we didn't deserve. We have gone on the field time and time again, and we have delivered an outstanding performance. Saturday was no exception, yes it wasn't perfect mr. band of blue member, but still we put our hearts into the performance and we did our best. I am so proud of everyone in the band, what a season we have had! Comments: When I see you guys at practice, working, working, working and then working some more, I then can understand how you can be soooooooooooo good. The hard work has paid off. You don't look like 270-something people on the field, you look like one very polished unit. Saturday, there will be hundreds of R/R fans in the stands screaming and yelling for you. (Yes, I will be one of the loudest ones there!!) We all just wanted to say thank you for making us proud of you, not just because of the GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP trophys, but because you have worked long and hard to show that "WORKING TOGETHER, YOU CAN REACH THE GOAL...." a lesson that a lot of us in the grown up world need to learn.

Comments: I will be the Drum Major for the UHS Sting machine for the 1999-2000 school year. I don't know, and haven't seen anyone making any rude remarks about the RR from Union. I would like to appologize for any remarks made though. The "YAHOO" remark, I'm sure was not made by anyone from Byrnes. That was a rude remark, and Byrnes was just simply beaten that night. Maybe they were off or something, but we beat them. I know that our drum major's won fairly, that was obvious for anyone educated in that area. I appologize once again for any rude remarks. Byrnes is the BEST high school band I have ever seen, and good luck in State competition, and BOA!!!!!
