This is what we have all worked so very hard this year to achieve. Congratulations to all the wonderful bands that performed Saturday night. The true reward of a job well done, is a job well done. I am sorry I was unable to see any of the other bands perform but from all the reports I have received everyones performance was outstanding. We are all very proud of the Bands of South Carolina and for us at Byrnes especially the 4A divison. Our activity depends on the good will and support of all our band families. I for one respect the effort of all our Bands and I know the vast majority of true supporters of SC bands are with me. One last thought if we don't love and support all our bands who will. It must come from us first. |

It does my heart good to hear some positive comments coming through on the website from the Walterboro people. After reading some of the trash, I was concerned about the image the Walterboro band members might project because of just a "few bad apples". The new news is refreshing...I know that Walterboro has plenty of Classy Kids too. The fact is this...it is HARD TO LOSE, because every single band that came to state has worked hundreds of hours to perfect their show. Every kid out there deserved a medal, and no one has the right to say anyone was undeserving! The Rebel Regiment is AWESOME...in every respect, and the Walterboro band was "rocking" too. Being a sore loser never makes things better, it only makes it worse. I was prepared last night to gracefully accept 2nd place if Walterboro had won, because I can appreciate the hard work they have done. It's a little disheartening to a rookie mom to read such rude comments from a kid who obviously has alot to learn about sportsmanship. I am glad he is not a true representation of the Walterboro band...janet sherbert |

Hey walterboro you can act like sore loosers but at least were godd sports about the competion and we didn't put you down in any way. We also enjoyed your show. Well, I've been doing your CD movies and pics all day and night and just finished 15 minutes ago. Now the boring part of transfering to CDRs. Anyway, I want to thank the Fort Mill fans and students who showed so much class, very admirable. To Boiling Springs(I made pics and movies of your band too), RV, Easley, DF, and FM - thank you very much for a wonderful contest. Special big THANK YOU to Goose Creek for your continued support and applause during the RR performance, you've been doing that for 3 years now-THANKS. Ohhh one more thing, I've been getting a lot of e-mails from Lafayette folks about a T-shirt trade. Do we have a 3Peat t-shirt in the works? If not please relay this to the folks making them shirts. THANK you for a wonderful marching band season...FK |

Name: Downs HAmilton Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Walterboro Time: 2000-10-29 21:25:44 Comments: I would like to apologize the comment made by the person from Walterboro. I don't know who they were but I hope that this person in MY band changes their bad attitude. I am a junior in the Walterboro band and I think that Byrnes(you guys) did a wonderful job. I am sorry for any bad comment that is made towards your band. Of course I was a little upset at state(an understatement) but I believe my band went and gave a wonderful performance, but again the Byrnes band came out victorious! I admire you Byrnes, you always give a great performance! I look back now to my three years of going up against you, and I think to myself,"why am I here, to win a contest, or to do something that I love and cherish and would die if I did not have it in my life." I really think that is what band needs to be. I know that sounds like some excuse for why we didn't win but it is not. Well anyway, keep doing what you do best, and I hope you do good at Nationals and I can't wait to see you next year at state. P.S. I love your Horn section, cause that is what I am!! From a Walterboro Bandsmen and fan of Byrnes, Downs Hamilton |

Name: Bill Young III Website: Go Carolina Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Walterboro, SC---BOB 1995-1998 Time: 2000-10-29 21:15:22 Comments: Congratulations on an outstanding performance last night. You finished ahead of some great bands. To those people who CLAIM to be members of the Band of Blue, stop kidding yourselves. If you were members of the Walterboro program, you would have more class than what has been exhibited in this guestbook. If you want to make disparaging comments about a great band, do not do so under the guise of a member of Walterboro's band. None of the directors stand for that type of attitude. To the person who thinks that Walterboro hates the Byrnes kids, you are wrong. Walterboro and Byrnes have much more in common than most people realize, and while the Walterboro kids were disappointed in their placement, they knew that they had a great run and that it took another great performance to finish ahead of them. There are not hard feelings between the bands, as some people would like to believe. Everything is left on the field; the Walterboro band knows this, which is how I can say with a fair amount of confidnece that the earlier comments were not made by Walterboro band students. To the Byrnes band, congratulations on another championship. Everyone in Walterboro is pulling for you to do great things in two weeks; we expect nothing but the best from y'all. Again, congratulations on a very impressive showing last night. |

Seniors, what a great senior year, after all the thick and thin, we pull ourselves out of the whole and won our Third State Championship! Thanks to everyone who helped us...Lafayette, Fort Mill, Boiling Springs, Northmont, North Hardin, Harrison County, Center Grove, Carmel, Pope, Lawrence Central, Jenison, King Phillip, Lassiter, Cypress Creek, and anyone else who has Instant messaged me in the last three week, thanks to you all for your encouragement and everything you do! To the Walterboro Pit/Front Ensemble, I really appreciate what you did for me last night! I enjoyed you coming over to meet me and being able to shake hands with you. You are really nice people! You really showed the class and respect you have for your band program. Thank you! You really are champions in my book! -Akeem |

Name: Band Mom Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Duncan, home of the 2000 State Champions Time: 2000-10-29 19:30:02 Comments: Way to go RR!! A 3-peat State win...and no matter what the second place band members (& others) feel they have to say, you deserved it!! Check out the scores. There were many good performances last night and I would like to congratulate all the bands, I'm sure they all worked long and hard to get there. I enjoyed the Crestwood show, it was very entertaining and they looked like they had fun! Goose Creek made me want to get up and dance to the "Big Band" sounds. Ridge View - love that snare solo through the screen! I'm beginning to like the spider too! :) BS,FM and WB, you made us do our best to win, thanks for providing the strong competition. You all did great! I liked the "JI" formed by James Island for the awards....that's just a few things. Every band there put on a great performance. It's a shame that there have to be so many negative comments coming from other bands/fans, actually I thought of a few things that I would like to say to them too, but that's not the Rebel Regiment way of doing things. Hold your heads high, disregard the disparaging comments and get ready for the BOA Grand Nationals. Drumline - you were ROCKING!!! Love that drum solo - You guys (girl) are the BEST!! Thanks Lafayette band members and parents for all your great comments and congrats to you for your 11th State win - maybe we'll catch up to you sometime - but the competition in SC is really tough, there are some really GREAT performing bands here! If I complained about anything it would be the trash left in the stands from 2A Finals - Irmo should have taken lessons from Boiling Springs and done something to try to clean up between the contests. Those "aisles" between the seats were too small to walk through without having to walk over the trash! I hope we can find a larger stadium to hold the State finals in next year. Or better yet, don't schedule 2A/4A on the same day!! One last thing - Scruff (USC Band) you looked great - we're proud of you!! |

I knew Walterborrow and Fort Mill were really good..but when I saw your performance last night, I knew as soon as you finished that you all won!! It was a given, how could you not win with a performance like that, and the difficulty of the drill, which was marched extremely well. So glad you guys won, congrats! |

Name: Scott Website: Well, umm... yeah. Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Clemson! Time: 2000-10-29 19:08:21 Comments: Congratulations!!! I'm glad to see that ya'll are keeping the streak my senior class started alive! I wish I could have seen the performance last night, we won't even talk about what I had to watch instead. I'll just say that I dislike Georgia Tech very much. But from what I heard, the performance was outstanding. I am thrilled that you were able to become 7 time state champions! You all have worked insanely hard this season so far, and it is almost over. Leah, congratulations on your first state championship! I had to wait a year for mine, but I'm proud that you got it on your first try! To the rest of the band, including my saxophones... and our transplanted saxophone up on the podium, congratulations on a great season so far. Now, end it with a bang. Ya'll have the ability to once again do something no South Carolina band has ever done... do it. Perform your best at Nationals, and I'll be there cheering you on. Nationals is an amazing experience. You will get to see bands that are unbelievable... but also remember this. You are up to that level now. Prove you belong. Work hard. And ya'll actually get to go into nationals as a state champion this time. That's a luxury we didn't have before. Good luck, I know ya'll will blow the roof off the dome. Congrats on state yesterday, and I'll see you all at Nationals!! Scott |

Name: Millie Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Rebel Regiment Land Time: 2000-10-29 17:51:33 Comments: I am so proud of the way the Rebel Regiment did last night and how they conduct themselves with class on and off the field! You honestly won that medal, as evident by the judges scores. The ugly comments made on this page by other bands serve as a reminder that we must always concentrate on doing our BEST! When we do that we will always come out a WINNER! People who base their self esteem on WINNING alone must tear other people down when they don't win to make themselves feel better. The truth of the matter is there were some VERY good bands who made some very HIGH, CLOSE scores! A 97 or a 97.1 is something to be very proud of! Each band worked very hard and each band wanted to win badly. And let's face it, it's the competition that keeps on making everyone get better and better. I have seen three seasons of band shows now and ALL the bands are doing considerably harder programs than they were in 97! I would like to congratulate Walterboro, Fort Mill, Ridgeview, Boiling Springs and all the other bands on their hard work and the excellent shows they put on the field! Rebel Regiment, let's keep our focus on doing our best at Nationals! GO REBEL REGIMENT! |

Name: Heather Website: Referred by: Just Surfed On In From: Duncan Time: 2000-10-29 17:29:18 Comments: Wow guys, awesome performance Sat. night! It's just too bad that there is such poor sportsmanship among the other bands. I do believe that the people of Walterboro really hate us now. Guys, don't let their negative remarks get to you. Byrnes had a most wonderful performance, and even if we hadn't won, they could never take away the great feeling we all got when we came off the field. Byrnes received that medal fair and square. I can understand why Walterboro would be mad if it was like a .1 spread b/w the two. But the scores show that Byrnes definitely deserved what they got. Both bands, in fact ALL the bands there have worked very hard all season, and each one deserves it's own round of applause. Did you have fun? Because that's what really counts.... Congrats Byrnes and congrats to everyone else that marched Saturday. And as a side note, a very special thank you to Boiling Springs for the loud and exciting accolade after our performance. Thanks a bunch guys! ~Heather |

WE totally deserved that State title and everyone of us new it after our show!! I also want to congratulate Walterboro, Fort Mill, Ridgeview, and Boiling Springs on top 5 placements. I know each band did great and I wish we all could have won. To Byrnes, keep your heads up high and be proud of your medals because you know you deserved them. I want to encourage the sore losers to keep there immaturity to themselves because they are only hurting their band and if I was a part of Walterboro or any other band that has signed with negative comments, I would be greatly ashamed and embarrassed of my band. I would have thought you all would have more class than that, but I guess I was wrong. Anyway, congratulations to ALL the bands for outstanding performances, especially Byrnes. |

I would like to tell you how it feels to watch you march on the field. When I see you walk on the field with eyes of pride and all the blue stripes on all the white pants are in unison, the rolled feet, the straight lines, the white plums accenting your uniforms, the discipline and the excellence as you snap your instruments and flags into position, the way the drum majors salute the judges....I know that your hearts are as one! You have worked so hard and you look so GREAT! I have watched an Olympic event in person AND been to a World Series game. I can tell you that watching you perform is like the Olympics, the World Series, the 4th of July, and Christmas ALL ROLLED INTO ONE!!!! When the wonderful sound of the music starts, every parent and band fan is on the edge of their seat, praying and watching, while the music entrances us. Every note, every musical and visual nuance becomes imbedded in our hearts and memories, as all our hopes and prayers rise with the music to form a oneness, a unity that is rarely felt elsewhere. When the wave of sound overcomes the crowd when you hit the high points and the company front, we are on our feet because we can't do otherwise, cheering and waving our flags, because we are so proud of you! We love every one of you so much, and however the competition comes out tomorrow or no matter what the judges think, remember we are behind you 200%. You are the REBEL REGIMENT - NEVER FORGET HOW SPECIAL THAT IS!!! Our prayers and love are with you! GO REBEL REGIMENT!! |

There are some Ft Mill folks who may feel that way, but we are seeing a lot more folks who are wanting the hard feelings to go away. We are known for our POSITIVE ATTITUDE!!! Let's keep it that way!!! We know ALL the bands deserve our support and encouragement and that a lot of folks watch us and are encouraged by the fact that we support everyone. Let's not get out of that habit!!! We need to stay focused on one thing......ssssssssssss STATE |

Congrats also to Ridge View, Boiling Springs, Ft. Mill and all the other bands who put their very best on the field. I look forward to seeing all the shows again at state. Someone asked about the "This Is Our House" sign. It was meant to encourage the RR to be confident in the face of very stiff competition. We congratulate Ft. Mill on their fine show in Johnson City and we knew they would be bringing their best to Upper State. If anyone did not understand the message or was offended, then I quickly apoligize. Obviously the stadium in Boiling Springs is the "house" of the fine Boinling Springs Bulldogs. Good luck to everyone at State! |

Approximately 320 original JPEG pics(1024 x 768 res) at Eastside game(1st performance), Band Camp, Meet the RR, Furman, JC BOA, KY BOA, UpperSC,& State. 2. Four full movie MPEGs of RR at Byrnes tourney, Furman, UpperSC, & State. Movies were recorded in high resolution TV quality(130MB/movie). The 15-20 second movie clips are NOT going to included 'coz it will not fit the CDR. That's approx. 650MB of multimedia files total. Hope y'all will like this 2000RR CD. Just a reminder, the cost is a VERY expensive $3(plus shipping if applicable). I don't intend to make a profit and all I want is for you to be satisfied but please do not make a copy of it without my permission.....GO WIN STATE ! Regards, FK |

It is great to see the comraderie from so far away when all we get are jeers from North Hardin and Dunbar band members and parents. For the person that wanted to have a home and home competition, Lafayette does not host a show. However, with encouragement like that, I think the Band Parent Association needs to take another look at such a possibility. Thanks for the support, it means a great deal to the Pride of the Bluegrass! |

I thought it was kind of funny that BAndaid corrected our spelling and only intended to poke a little fun. I admit I have a warped sense of humor that gets me in trouble. It was after midnight and sometimes things seem funnier than they really are. So I will dutifully try to congratulate the other bands and at the same time graduate from high school if BAndaid will forgive me if I occassionally forget. Sorry! |

I would like her t know that yes we were a little dissapointed with the placement at BOA but that was not the important thing. The important thing is that when we came off the field we felt good about ourselves and the judges could not change that feeling not matter what score they gave us. Best of luck at Irmo (We know you guys are going to get first, but you will only beat us by one tenth of a point) See you saturday!! |

He likes to make comments but doesn't have the guts to put his name on the page. What he doesn't realize is that his comments are NOT constructive criticism as he claims...they are just plain NEGATIVE taunts aimed at tearing the RR down. Anyone associated with the Rebel Regiment knows that such negativity and immaturity does not instill the winning attitude that is characteristic of the Rebel Regiment, it's directors, members, Booster Club, parents and FANS. ATTITUDE is EVERYTHING and we will not let anything, including inane comments, pull us down. We are above the taunts and the jeers, and that is why we don't tolerate them on our page. Thank you, dear editor, for your reply, and your hard work at maintaining our page. AND AS FOR THE REBEL REGIMENT, I thought you did the best ever at Johnson City and I eagerly await SATURDAY's Competition when the REBEL REGIMENT will remain UPPERSTATE CHAMPS!!!! We know you will do your best and we love watching you preform!!!!!!! GO JOSH! GO RR!!! |

You work just as hard! Keep it up! Much success!! |

No matter what anyone says don't listen. And for those who saw the entry from a girl named Jamie in our band on the Layfette (forgive bad spelling) website. I believe I speak for the entirety (spelling again) of the Boiling Springs Band when I say that I am sorry for the lack of respect she had towards you all. You obviously work very hard on your shows every year and it shows. I as well as the majority of our band respect your band HIGHLY. Congratulations once again and good luck this weekend. I can't wait to see your show again! :) |

Now I don't go to band competition all the time, but when i go to yours i get chill bumps during the show. It takes alot to impress me too and you guys do it everytime you step on the field. Now even though you guys went through a tough time @ BOA in Johnson City, cuz i know how bad all of you wanted to win, you guys are still #1 with me. I thought you all were WAY better then all of them, but then again I wasn't a judge. So i can't help you. But b/c you guys got 3rd @ BOA shouldn't slow you down it should make you wanna work even harder to BEAT Fort Mill into the ground @ Upper State in Boiling Springs (I'll be there to watch too). So keep your heads up and go get that upper state and state titles! I have a little "motto" that i always use towards baseball for myself, and maybe i thought you could use it too. Goes something like this "Blood=Pain,Pain=Work,Work=Glory,Glory=Pride Pride stays forever." Now i dunno if you guys can use this is any kind of way, but it helps me. Also I'd like to say I LOVE YOU to my baby ASHLEY TURNER!!! And that you are always #1 in my heart baby :) |

Silly me, I thought we lived in America, where people could express their opinions freely. What harm do those posts do? None that I can see. [ Editor's Comments ] The first amendment guarantees your right to say whatever you want without interference or censorship from the government. It doesn't mean I have to provide you the platform. They were so nice and supportive of not only their band but the other parents and students. I will never forget their kindness. Wish us luck this weekend. It is state competetion in Bowling Green. |

I can appreciate all the dedication and hard work it took to reach that level of performance. Just a note....we sat with some of Byrnes parents during the finals...they could not have been nicer or more supportive, not only of their band but also the other bands. I heard the same thing from my son about his interaction with the Byrnes'band members. The people make a great band, not just the music performance, and you are proof of that. Great job kids!!!!!!! |

You're not just a "great" band on the field, you also rate as a "great" band OFF the field. I'm glad to see that these other bands appreciated how nice the RR band was to them - it's things like that that really show what a class band the Rebel Regiment is. Thanks to all the band directors for the discipline they've instilled in all of you. And thanks to all the band members for being the truly 1st class band that you are. Keep it up, practice hard this week and go get that Upper State title again! GO DRUMLINE & Bass Clarinets! Best of Luck to all the Seniors!! |

I would like to congratulate you on yet another spectacular performance,as I have heard! If it were up to me,and I'm sure many others, I would go ahead and just buy you all the first place trophies that could be found. However, and realistically, you already know scores mean nothing when it comes to doing your best. A trophy is a plastic and wood material object. Pride and the fact you know you've done your best are forever. Forge ahead Regiment, you have every reason to be proud because YOU ARE THE REBEL REGIMENT! As most of you know, I am an "adopted" Rebel Regiment fan from Sprayberry. You made me that much more proud when family and friends called me to tell me the scores and highlights of Johnson City. With the warm welcome you've extended to Libby and I since our arrival here this year, all I could do was laugh at my friends when they called to "whine" about Sprayberrys loss. Once again congratulations and keep doing that thing you do so well!!! |

It is not a shame to lose when another band has marched a great show. The important part is that our band gives its best efforts and then does what it has to do.....leave it in the hands of the judges. When they call our name out as champions, it feels great. When it happens to another band, all we can do it congratulate them for a job well done. What I like about a band may be different than the next guy. I don't always agree with the judges, but that is why they are in that position and I'm just in the stands. I like the RR show! and I like the RR! We've still got a very important couple of weeks coming up, we do our jobs the best that we can and we let the judges do their job! Either way, if you do our best, you are winners!!! |

I thought we did great to go up there our first time AND compete with some of the best bands in the country. Winning our class was good enough for me. I felt that I gave my best performance, that left me marching out of that contest feeling like a winner. I think I'm like Pitboss- I have been waiting for the Johnson City BOA Regional for a while now. I just can't wait to get up there and be announced a "The Defending Johnson City, Tennesee Bands Of America Regional Champions." Let's don't worry about what other people think. weve got a medallion under our belt already this year and I think we can do better at Johnson City, but only if we practice like the defending champions! So Lte's go out on the field Tommorrow and practice like we are going to win it again!!!!!!!!!!! |

I think you are a great band but if I were you i would not let my guard down because you do have some serious competition. Walterboro and Fort Mill are very good. If you haven't heard Walterboro is awesome this year. They beat us by over 3 points. I am certainly sure this year they are out for a victory. Fort Mill is tired of your talk about beating them. They might be the ones you need to worry about and not Walterboro, at least for the time being. But there is no need to talk now. I guess it will all be said at State in 2 weeks. Well good luck until then. |

Must have been a rumor....hehe [ Editor's comments ] No, it's not a rumor since the very score you refer to IS LISTED ON THIS WEB SITE! We are proud of the Rebel Regiment's performance in Louisville and pleased with the progress of the show this year, so we certainly aren't going to be hurt, humiliated, or intimidated by the scores from that competition. Our security is not in a title or a victory, but in the knowledge that we have done our best, so failure to win a competition or beat a certain band is not a disgrace if we've given maximum effort. It is a disgrace, however, that you so desperately lack self-esteem you feel compelled to denigrate others who are striving to give the best performance they are capable of giving. |

We brought home the Grand Championship{to Jennifer Dionne, read that you were wondering.}Anyway guys Saturday was such a good practice for the RR. We got so much better, don't you think so? I was so proud of this band I could have yelled. Not because we won, but because of the way we performed. The music in As Summer Was Just Beginning- the part where we do the step back {sorry Mr. Mac I can't spell what you call it} gave me major cold chills. We got soft on the soft parts and loud on the loud parts and we shaped the phrases. Thanx so much for allowing me to be in a band of such a high caliber! If you read the BOA forum under 'Grand Nats. Predicion' the writer places us in 9th saying "this is a huge band with some incredible control musically. watch out for them. I pick them to take Johnson City- we will see. Guys {and gals} weve got people talking about us that we have never competed against- saying that we-little ol' Duncan SC are going to have something that is one of the 10 best in the country. Wouldn't it be great to prove him right and all the people who say we aren't good to prove them wrong? Let's practice hard and show them who the James F. Byrnes REBEL REGIMENT is!!!!!! EYES WITH PRIDE! |
