C. Phillip McIntyre is a native of Greenville, South
Carolina, and a 1973 graduate of Parker High School. While at Parker, Phil was under the
guidance of his teacher, mentor, and friend, Mr. James B. Senn. Following his tenure at
Parker, Phil attended Furman University as a student of Mr. Dan A. Ellis. He received a
Bachelor of Music degree in 1977 and Masters of Arts in Education in 1982. In 1977 Phil
was hired as Director of Bands at Blue Ridge High School where he served for six years. In
1982 Phil was named Teacher of the Year at Blue Ridge. In 1983 Mr. McIntyre became
Director of Bands at James F. Byrnes High School, and in 1999 was named Teacher of the
Year. In 1999 he was also awarded the Outstanding Bandmaster by Phi Beta Mu, and a
Citation of Excellence by the National Band Association.
The Byrnes band program is a twelve-time recipient of the
SCBDA Outstanding Performance Award. The symphonic bands under Mr. Mclntyre's direction have consistently been awarded
superior ratings at the SCBDA Concert Band Festivals, and the marching band has won 9 state championships, 13 upper
state championships, a BOA regional championship, 4 BOA regional class AA championships and countless other honors.
In 1999 the symphonic band performed at the SCMEA In-Service Conference.
Mr. McIntyre is a member of Phi Beta Mu, American School Band Directors Association,
SCBDA, Phi Mu Alpha, SCMEA, MENC, and the Ruritan Club. He is also a member of the Duncan
First Baptist Church. Phil has served SCBDA as President, Chairman of the Marching
Committee for six years, and Chairman of the Adjudication Committee. Phil and his wife
Wanda have been married for twenty-four years. They have two wonderful daughters, Alicia,
a sophomore at South Carolina, Kelsey, a freshman at James F. Byrnes High School.
In 1999, Mr. McIntyre was inducted into the SCBDA Hall of Fame.

Eric Bell is in his 9th year teaching in the Spartanburg County District
Five school system. During his tenure he has taught at D.R. Hill
Middle School and Beech Springs Intermediate School and served as
an Assistant Director with the James F. Byrnes Rebel Regiment.
He also served as an Assistant Director at Wheeler High School in Marietta,
GA during the 1999-2000 academic year before returning to Spartanburg
County School District Five.
The bands at D. R. Hill have consistently received superior ratings and
placed many students in All-Region and All-State Bands.
The D. R. Hill Honor Band performed at the 1999 SCMEA In-Service Conference in Greenville, SC
and the 2001 University of Georgia Middle School Music Festival.
Mr. Bell has served as a conductor for the 2002 South Carolina Region 5 Junior Band, the
2000 South Carolina Region 3 Junior Band, the 1999 Summer Band Camp at the University of South
Carolina, and the Lassiter High School Symphonic Band Camp in
Marietta, GA. He is a member of SCMEA, the South Carolina Band
Directors Association, the National Band Association, Pi Kappa Lambda,
and Phi Mu Alpha.
Mr. Bell, a Spartanburg County native, is a 1989 graduate of James F. Byrnes
High School, where he was a drum major for the Rebel Regiment during the
1987-1988 and 1988-1989 seasons. He received his B.M.Ed. from the University of
South Carolina in 1994. He and his wife of seven years, Cheryl, live in
Simpsonvile. They have one daughter, Reece Olivia.

Homer W. Ellis, a native of Sunbright, Tennessee, graduated from Kathleen High School in Lakeland, Florida in 1967. He received his Associate in Arts degree in music from Polk Junior College, in Winter Haven, Florida in 1969. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in music education from Saint Leo College, in Saint Leo, Florida in 1971. He completed his Master of Business Administration from Webster University, Greenville Metropolitan campus, Greenville, SC in July 2000.
Mr. Ellis spent three years as a trumpet player in the 80th Army Band (1971-1974). He taught general music, K-8; chorus, 7-12; band 5-12 at Tryon City Schools, in Tryon, North Carolina (1974-1976). In the fall of 1976 Mr. Ellis began his tenure at D. R. Hill Middle School and at James F. Byrnes High School. He is now in his twenty-eigth year of teaching band at D. R. Hill Middle School and as an assistant for the James F. Byrnes High School Rebel Regiment.
The D. R. Hill Middle School Band program had been the recipient of the SCBDA Outstanding Performance Award twelve times. The concert bands have earned 16 Excellent and 14 Superior ratings at SCBDA Concert Festivals. The D. R. Hill Middle School band has performed at the South Carolina Music Educators In-Service Conference in 1999 and the University of Georgia Middle School Band Festival in 2001.
Mr. Ellis has been a clinician in North and South Carolina and an adjudicator in Georgia.
Mr. Ellis joined the 246th Army National Guard Band in 1979 as a trumpet and French horn player. The band is now based in Columbia, SC. Mr. Ellis is high brass group leader, and holds the rank of Sergeant First Class. He is a member of SCBDA, MENC, ASBDA, NBA, and IAJE.
Mr. Ellis and his wife, Jan, have four children: Kim Cansler, Matthew Ellis, Kevin Bowers, and Dorothy Ellis.

Patrick Lowery currently serves as Director of Percussion in Spartanburg District 5 Schools. A native of Savannah, Georgia, Mr. Lowery graduated from Effingham Co. high school in 1991. He received his Bachelors degree in music education from the University of Georgia in 1996. After receiving an assistantship at the University of Tennessee, Mr. Lowery completed his Masters Degree in percussion performance in 1998. After doing post-graduate work back at the University of Georgia, Mr. Lowery accepted the position in District 5 Schools.
Mr. Lowery has performed with many diverse groups including the Spirit of Atlanta Bugle Corps, Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps, the Tropical Breeze Steel Drum Band, UGA Wind Symphony, the Savannah Symphony, UGA African Ensemble, and the Battuta Percussion Group. In addition, Mr. Lowery has played with the Porto Alegre Symphony in Porto Alegre, Brazil and the Yuyama Duo, a saxophone/percussion duet with friend and saxophonist Ruth Colegrove. With Mrs. Colegrove, Mr. Lowery recently performed at the World Saxophone Congress in Montreal.
Active as an adjudicator throughout the Southeast, Mr. Lowery has also given clinics at the Tennessee Music Educator’s Conference, the University of Georgia January Festival, and the Joycliffe Marching Percussion Clinic in Athens, Georgia.
As a teacher and writer, Mr. Lowery has worked with a vast array of marching bands, drum corps, indoor percussion ensembles, and concert ensembles. These include the Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, the University of Georgia Redcoat Band, the University of Tennessee Pride of the Southland, and countless high school ensembles. In addition to his duties in District 5 Schools, Mr. Lowery also teaches at Converse College and instructs the Furman University drumline.
